Volkswagen’s Beetle has reinvented to fit the module of 2012 as the pure electric E-Bugster whereas the name “E-Bugster” is derived as: “E” is to represent the electric, “Bug” is the nick of iconic Beetle and “speedster” represents the open-top two seater as described by the company at Detroit 2012 although its not a true roadster as the roof is fixed. The car is powered by a 114-horsepower electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. The E-Bugster is easily rechargeable by single phase AC current or by ultra-fast DC charging at dedicated stations as the car uses a “Combined Charging System”, developed by a German–US team consisting of Audi, Porsche, BMW, Daimler,Volkswagen, GM and Ford.The quick-charge function is installed to ensure recharge time of 35 minutes by the “central electric module” weighs 80kg and VW say it provides a range of “at least” 180km in real-world conditions. In comparison to the concept that was showcased at the 2006 NAIAS of the New Beetle Ragster Concept , the E-Bugster’s design has been revised heavily from front and back whereas the roof is lowered by 7.4 cm and the side windows are smaller.
